APPLICATIONS FOR ADMISSION INTO THE UNDERGRADUATE DEGREE AND
DIPLOMA PROGRAMMES OFFERED BY MUHIMBILI UNIVERSITY OF HEALTH AND
ALLIED SCIENCES FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2017/2018

The Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic, Research and Consultancy, Muhimbili University of
Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) invites suitably qualified candidates for admission into
various undergraduate and diploma programmes for the academic year 2017/2018.
A: UNDERGRADUATE DEGREE PROGRAMMES
The Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) offers undergraduate degree
programmes whose entry qualifications are as follows: -
1.0 School of Medicine
1.1 Doctor of Medicine (MD)
Admission/ Entry Requirements for MD degree Programme
Three principal passes in Physics, Chemistry and Biology with minimum entry of 8
points, whereby one must have at least C grade in Chemistry and Biology and at least D
grade in Physics
1.2 Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Sciences General Degree (BMLS General)
1.3 Bachelor of Science in Radiation Therapy Technology (BSc RTT)
1.4 Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Sciences in Clinical Chemistry (BMLS Clin. Chem)
1.5 Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Sciences in Histotechnology (BMLS Histotech.)
1.6 Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Sciences in Parasitology and Medical Entomology
(BMLS Paras. Entomol.)
1.7 Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Sciences in Microbiology and Immunology (BMLS
Micro. Immunol.)
1.8 Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Sciences in Haematology and Blood Transfusion
(BMLS Haem.BT)Admission/ Entry Requirements for all other listed Programmes in the School of Medicine
Three principal passes in Physics, Chemistry and Biology with minimum entry of 6 points, whereby
one must have at least C grade in Chemistry and at least D grade in Biology and E grade in Physics.
2.0 School of Dentistry
2.1 Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS)
Admission / Entry Requirements
Three principal passes in Physics, Chemistry and Biology with minimum entry of 8 points,
whereby one must have at least C grade in Chemistry and Biology and at least D grade in
Physics.
3.0 School of Pharmacy
3.1 Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm)
Admission/ Entry Requirements
Three principal passes in Physics, Chemistry and Biology with minimum entry of 8 points,
whereby one must have at least C grade in Chemistry and Biology and at least D grade in
Physics.
4.0 School of Nursing
4.1 Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSc N)
Admission/ Entry Requirements
Three principal passes in Chemistry, Biology and either Physics or Mathematics or Nutrition
with a minimum of 6 points, whereby one must have at least C grade in Chemistry and at least
D grade in Biology and E grade in Physics or Mathematics or Nutrition.
5.0 School of Public Health and Social Sciences
5.1 Bachelor of Science in Environmental Health (BSc. EHS)
Admission/ Entry Requirements
Three principal passes in Chemistry, Biology and either Physics or Mathematics or Nutrition
or Geography or Agriculture with a minimum of 6 points. Whereby one must have at least C
Grade in Chemistry and at least D grade in Biology and E grade in physics or Mathematics or
Nutrition or Geography or Agriculture.
EQUIVALENT ENTRANTS
All equivalent applicants may apply for the above Programmes if they meet the requirements stated
below:
(i) Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) with at least five (5) passes
including two credit passes in Chemistry and Biology and a D Grade in Physics PLUS,
appropriate Diploma or Advanced Diploma with an average of “B+” or GPA of 3.5
(ii) BSc (Lower Second Class) majoring in Physics/ Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology/ Zoology

HOLDERS OF FOREIGN CERTIFICATES
All applicants holding foreign qualifications must have their qualifications validated and equated by
the respective regulatory bodies before submitting their applications for admissions as follows:(i) The National Examination Council of Tanzania in respect of Certificates of Secondary
Education and Teacher education
(ii) The National Council for Technical Education in respect of NTA Level 6 qualification.

B: DIPLOMA PROGRAMMES
MUHAS, through its Institute of Allied Health Sciences, offers the following Diploma programmes: -
(i) Advanced Diploma in Dermatovereology – (ADDV)
(ii)Diploma in Diagnostic Radiography (DDR)
(iii) Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences (DMLS)
(iv) Diploma in Pharmaceutical Sciences (DPS)
(v)Diploma in Nursing (DN)
(vi) Diploma in Environmental Health Sciences (DEHS)
(vii) Diploma in Orthopaedic Technology (DOT)
N.B
(a) DEHS programme is taught at Muhimbili Campus, Tanga Campus and Mpwapwa
Campus. Applicants for the DEHS programme may therefore be selected into any of these
campuses.
(b) The ADDV and DOT programmes are taught at the Regional Dermatovenereology
Training Centre (RDTC) and Tanzania Training Centre for Orthopaedic Technology
(TATCOT), respectively. Both centers are located at the Kilimanjaro Christian Medical
Centre (KCMC). Applications for admission into these two programmes are open to
candidates from outside Tanzania.
(c) Application for the various Diploma programmes are made through the National
Council for Technical Education (NACTE) Central Admission System.
(e) Qualifications for admission into the various MUHAS Diploma programmes are
indicated in the MUHAS prospectus which is posted on the University website
www.muhas.ac.tz
C. MODE OF APPLICATION
i) Applicants for Degree Programs
Applicants for Degree Programs are required to apply online through the University Website
www.muhas.ac.tz and follow instructions given by the online application system to apply for
the courses of their choice. Application fees will be paid through the online- application portal
by mobile money (Tigo-Pesa, M- Pesa, Airtel Money) or directly at any NMB Branch and
paid to the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences Account Number
20901100002 and Swift Code NMBTZTZ
ii) Applicants for Diploma Programs
Applicants for Diploma Programs are required to apply through the NACTE Central
Admission System (CAS)

Applicants must:
(i) Carefully read and understand the Program Admission requirements
(ii) Make an informed choice of the programme applied for, taking into account the
competition, one’s passes as well as career aspirations.
(iii)Ensure the names and index numbers used during application for admission matches
with those used during their studies
(iv)Give correct particulars of citizenship
(v) Pay a non-refundable application fee of TZS. 50,000/= for Tanzanians and USD 30
for International Applicants. All transfer charges for International applicants must be
borne by the applicants themselves
(vi)Ascertain themselves that they possess the minimum entrance qualifications before
they pay the fees as the fees will not be refunded under any circumstances.
Important Information:
(i) The number of applicants in each program will influence the cut-off points for
admission into the respective programme and School.
(ii) Applicants will therefore be selected to join the University based on their
qualifications and fulfilment of entry requirements.
(iii) Applicants are informed that it is an offence to submit false information for
admission. Any candidate who will be discovered to have submitted false information
will NOT be considered and appropriate legal action will be taken against them
