The government said today (31/10/2017) that the employment policy will now reflect ongoing plans to create an industrialised economy.
The Deputy Minister for Labour, Youth, Employment and Disabled, Mr Anton Mavunde says the government will officially recognise various groups of people as part of its employment strategy.
Mr Mavunde was speaking during the inauguration ceremony of Recognition of Prior Learning Assessment (RPLA) held at the Vocational Education and Training Authority (Veta) in Tanga Region.
The ceremony was attended by Veta officials from the northern regions, which include those from Arusha, Manyara and Kilimanjaro.
At least 134 apprenticeship youth, who had acquired skills in carpentry, beverages, and mechanical engineering without going through official training in established institutions, are earmarked for training.
Mr Mavunde said the youth will be absorbed into the official training in established centres like Veta and after completion of training they will be awarded with certificates.
“Through this system, all self-trained youth and who have the will to hone their skills should not hesitate to enroll in these centres,” he emphasised.
The Acting Director of Veta, Mr Yohana Mwenda revealed that about 701 youth have back-street training and need to be enrolled for the official training.
Mr Mwenda said there are about 22,000 apprenticeship youth countrywide who are eligible for the RPLA programme.
