The Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) is a private, non-denominational, international development agency promoting creative and effective solutions to selected problems that impede social and economic development in parts of Africa and Asia. AKF-Tanzania is part of the AKF-East Africa regional structure that supports programmes in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. In Tanzania, AKF is managing a robust and expanding portfolio of multi-sectorial initiatives that includes programmes in inclusive economic development, health, nutrition, early childhood development, education and civil society strengthening.

AKF is looking for well qualified professional to fill the Education Advisor position based in Dar es Salaam Reporting to the Program Manager-Education, the Education Advisor is responsible for the successful planning, delivery, and coordination of all education interventions under the USAID funded and Pact led project. Working within a consortium team and wider management team, the Education Advisor’s role will include project management, delivering capacity development workshops, providing technical support to government and CSO delivery partners, and leading on financial compliance and report writing for the education component of the Project. The Education Advisor is responsible for effective and efficient delivery, project quality and donor compliance.

Specific responsibilities include:

Project Management Develop a clear plan and strategy for program management to ensure effective implementation. Budget management and control Oversee monitoring and evaluation and ensuring measurement of achievements towards project goals Disseminate project information by preparing timely and regular programme reports. Assess level of risks associated with programme implementation, propose and implement mitigation strategies.
Capacity development and technical support to CSO, and other implementing partners: Coordinate and manage project implementation in collaboration with local Government, Pact, other consortium member, and other stakeholder initiatives. Plan for and deliver training on whole school approach and low cost material development to various stakeholders at the District and Ward levels.
Partnership and Engagement: Ensure strong partnership with the relevant district and regional authorities, other AKF projects, AKDN partners, donor, government, partner agencies and NGOs (as applicable) under guidance from AKF
The ideal candidate will have:

Master’s degree in education, international development or the equivalent; At least five years of solid experience working in education programming and international development; Experience of working with teams in remote locations; Experience developing and delivering bespoke capacity development workshops

Proven experience in managing USAID or equivalent projects;
Strong familiarity with monitoring and evaluation methodologies and logical frameworks; Demonstrated capacity to write high quality reports; Strong leadership, teamwork and management skills;
Ability to work independently, multi-task and work on tight timelines;
Exceptional written and verbal skills in English and Kiswahili;
Positive communication and organisation skills;
Knowledge of whole school approach and experience in delivering training in this approach;
Strong facilitation skills;
Thorough understanding of the global and national efforts in education; Experience of working in Tanzania or East Africa
