ENTRY REQUIREMENTS AND DEGREE PROGRAMMES OFFERED AT KCMC 2017/18

           

BSc Health Laboratory Science

Direct Entry:

Ordinary Level Secondary Education Certificate with three credits or five passes in biology, chemistry and physics/mathematics.

Advanced level Secondary School Education certificate with at least two principals and a subsidiary and a minimum point aggregate of 4.5 in biology, chemistry and physics/mathematics. A pass in biology is a must.

Preference will be given to applicants who have completed

“A” level within the past 3 years.

 Equivalent Entry:

Ordinary Level Secondary Education Certificate with three credits or five passes in biology, chemistry and physics/mathematics.

A Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology passed at B-level or above from an approved and recognized institution by TCU or NACTE.

At least two years continuous working experience in a health laboratory

Preference will be given to applicants who have qualified within the past 5 years.

BSc NURSING

Direct Entry qualifications:

Ordinary Level Secondary Education Certificate with three credits or five passes in biology, chemistry and physics/mathematics. AND

Advanced level Secondary School Education certificate with at least two principals and a subsidiary and a minimum point aggregate of 4.5 in biology, chemistry and physics/mathematics.  A pass in biology is a must

Equivalent Entry qualifications:

Ordinary Level Secondary Education Certificate with three credits or five passes in biology, chemistry and physics/mathematics. AND

A Nurse ‘A’ diploma certificate and must be of an average overall B-grade or above from an approved and recognized institution by TCU or NACTE.

The applicant must have at least 3 years work experience

BSc Physiotherapy

Direct Entry:

Ordinary Level Secondary Education Certificate with three credits or

five passes in biology, chemistry and physics/mathematics AND

Advanced level Secondary School Education certificate with at least two principals and a subsidiary and a minimum point aggregate of 4.5 in biology, chemistry and physics/mathematics

Equivalent Entry:

Ordinary Level Secondary Education Certificate with three credit passes in biology, chemistry and physics/ mathematics.

A Diploma in Physiotherapy certificate with an overall average of grade B or above from an approved and recognized institution by TCU or NACTE in anatomy, physiology, pathology, physiotherapy / therapeutic skills, and clinical practice during the period of diploma study

Relevant Advanced level Secondary School Education certificate is an added advantage..

BSc Prothetics / Orthiotics

Direct Entry:

O rdinary Level Secondary Education Certificate with three credits or five passes in biology, chemistry.

Advanced level Secondary School Education certificate with at least two principals and a subsidiary and a minimum point aggregate of 4.5 in biology, chemistry and physics/mathematics.                    

 Equivalent Entry

Ordinary Level Secondary Education Certificate with three credit passes in biology, chemistry and physics/ mathematics.

A Diploma in Orthopaedic Technology Certificate from an approved and recognized institution by TCU or NACTE with an overall average of grade B pass or above in mathematics, mechanics, biomechanics, pathology, prosthetics and orthotics during the period of diploma study

Advanced level Secondary School Education certificate with at least two principals in biology, chemistry and physics/mathematics will be an advantage.

BSc Optometry

Direct Entry:

Ordinary level Secondary Education Certificate with three credits in Biology,Chemistry, Physics/Mathematics

Advanced level Secondary School Education certificate with at least two principals and a subsidiary with minimum point aggregate of 4.5 in Biology,Chemistry and Physics/Mathematics

Equivalent Qualification

Ordinary level Secondary Education Certificate with at least two credits in biology, chemistry ???

Diploma in Optometry from approved and recognized Institutions and average of B grade in Diagnosis and management of occular diseases,Visual Science,Physiological Optics and Visual Perception, Dispensing theory and Material Knowldge,Opthalmic Dispensing Theory,Clinical Optometryand Opthalmic dispensing Practical.

At least two years of working experience in a respective field

Doctor of Medicine (MD)

  Direct Entry:

Ordinary Level Secondary Education Certificate with three credits

or five passes in biology, chemistry and physics/mathematics

Advanced level Secondary School Education certificate with three principal passes at a minimum point aggregate of 5.0 in biology or zoology, chemistry, and physics or mathematics. A pass in biology or zoology is a must.

Preference will be given to applicants who have completed

“A” level within the past 3 years

Equivalent Qualifications

Ordinary Level Secondary Education Certificate with three credits or five passes in biology, chemistry and physics/mathematics.

Advanced level Secondary School Education certificate with at least two principals in biology, chemistry and physics/mathematics.

A Diploma in Clinical Medicine passed at B-level or above from an approved and recognized institution by TCU or NACTE or holders of first degree or its equivalents majoring in Biology, Zoology or Chemistry from an approved and recognized institution by TCU or NACTE.

At least two years continuous working experience intern experience inclusive.

Preference will be given to applicants who have qualified within the past 5 years.
