Number of Form Six leavers joining National Service drops by 52 per cent
Dar es Salaam. The number of Form Six leavers joining the National Services, has dropped from 31,900 in 2014 to 14,747 in 2015, the Parliament was told on Tuesday.
This represents 52 per cent decline. The Minister for Defence and National Service, Dr Hussein Mwinyi, told the Parliament that 31,900 students out of 41,968 who completed their advanced level education in 2014 joined the national service compared to 14,747 students, who completed their advanced level education joined the national service.
Dr Mwinyi was responding to a question from the Newala Member of Parliament, Mr George Mkuchika, who sought to know the number of youths, who joined National Service in a period between 2013 and 2016.
According to Dr Mwinyi, the decline in the number is attributed to a number of challenges including lack of funds.
He added that the government was working on addressing the challenges to make sure that all Form Six leavers joined the national service.
