Careers at Africare Tanzania: Communications Specialist - Mwanzo Bora Nutrition Program

Reports to: Chief of Party

Position Summary
To scale up Mwanzo Bora Nutrition Program's (MBNP) impact through program communication and advocacy. The Communications Specialist will be responsible for setting up and achieving program communications targets and contribute to, and monitoring, their implementation. In particular, s/he will produce and disseminate materials for communicating information about the projects and their activities; coordinate content of Africare Tanzania website social media and theproduction of a periodic newsletter; disseminate project's reports and publications; and maintain an updated database of contacts and effective communication system.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
• In accordance with plans developed by senior management/department managers, develop, implement and evaluate an annual communications strategy;
• Working with and obtaining input from senior management, and other departments regarding communications messaging;
• Work with the senior management to determine goals and critical success factors;
• Ensure the communications budget is in conjunction with organizational budget;
• Develop, implement and evaluate the annual social media strategy;
• Provide professional writing and communications in support of MBNP's internal and external communications;
• Responsible for creating thought leadership pieces like op-eds and blogs;
• Collaborate, write, edit and provide expertise in developing organizational brochures, web content, press releases and other print materials;
• Build internal relationships to gather information on important events within the organization;
• Assist with maintaining consistency with respect to the MBNP's goals and vision;
• Provide input on tactics and action items needed to meet agreed upon MBNP goals;
• Work with the Management team to determine goals and critical success factors;
• Ensure content is updated as per established standards;
• Backup support staff in the management of the website;
• Make recommendations concerning website usage, 'look', potential content, and other considerations as they arise;
• Keep up-to-date on new marketing strategies, website designs, event planning techniques, etc
• Look for efficiencies and recommending changes as necessary;
• Ensure alignment of communications and events plans with organizational objectives;
• Participate in team and organizational meetings and activities, and events;
• Writing, editing and distributing press releases. Monitoring, maintaining and responding to public media inquiries;
• Tracking, monitoring, measuring and disseminating, both social and traditional, media mentions;

Assist in development and preparation of department projects - both internal and external (writing, project management, event coordination etc.).

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
• A Graduate or Post Graduate qualifications in Mass Communication, Public Health, Marketing and Public Administration, Journalism, Public

Relations or any other related subject
• + 2 years of working experience in communications with multiple stakeholders groups and a vested experience of working in a public relations agency.
• Sufficient experience in communications, social media, public relations messaging and media relations
• Outstanding communication skills (both verbal and written), including the ability to answer questions and write on behalf of MBNP.
• Well developed report writing, publications, research and consultation skills.
• Well developed IT skills: advanced knowledge of excel and specialist software, e.g SPSS; experience of online consultation and webpage development.
• An ability to use working tools such as Photoshop, picture designing etc
