Position: Project Intervention Coordinator

Position Type: Three years contract
Focus: Community based schistosomiasis control
Positions Available: One (1)
Area of work: Mwanza (Ilemela and Nyamagana Councils)



The project titled “Towards sustainability of schistosomiasis control: Improving health of
lake shore communities and engaging civil structure, education and health facilities in
hyperendemic areas of Mwanza, Tanzania” to be implemented in Nyamagana and Ilemela
Municipal Council is currently looking for a qualified person to fill in a position of PROJECT
COORDINATOR for a period of three (3) years.



The roles of the project coordinator
The intervention coordinator assisting the project coordinator will be mainly responsible for
monitoring, supervision and coordination intervention activities (mass drug administration-MDA,
selected test and treatment campaign, health education using CHAST, peer and multiplicator
education, capacity building for improving skills among health care providers in schistosomiasis
case detection, and in improving health facilities for diagnosis and treatment facilities for
schistosomiasis) in this program as specified and detailed below.



 Supervision, monitoring of intervention activities such as schistosomiasis case
management at health facilities, pre-MDA campaign & MDA exercises among adults,
selected test and treatment campaign, health education among primary schools and
civil society structures in the Lake shore.
 Supervision of research assistants during data in the field sites and
 Preparation and assisting in facilitating training workshop organized at GNI office and
in other selected venue.
 Prepare a monthly, quarterly and annual report of intervention activities [health
facilities clinical and laboratory data/records (by analysis and interpretation of health
data) in the Lake shore] and other intervention activities as assigned to her/him.
 Assisting clinicians at the health facilities in clinical management of complicated case
of schistosomiasis and for undergoing further medical evaluation at GNI office before
being referred to the higher level.
 Plan and arrange for referring of serious or unmanageable cases (e.g. haematemesis) to
higher level of health facilities (E.g. Sekou-toure Regional hospital and Bugando
referral hospital)
Qualifications:
 Must have a bachelor’s degree in Medicine from a formally recognized university, completed
internship and with any experience of working in community based project.
 Good knowledge of Neglected Tropical Diseases Interventions and technical knowledge on
how to interact with community.
 Must have knowledge on project reports writing, project management, scientific publications
and presentation.
 Must have proficient computer skills including familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word,
Excel and PowerPoint).
 Prior experience with data collection, data handling, data security, analysis and report
presentation is an added asset.
 Knowledge on research ethics.
 Knowledge on qualitative data collection is an added asset.
 Demonstrated accurate and efficient data entry using computers is considered an asset
 Must be physically fit and willing and able to walk long distances, Must be comfortable and willing to work in rural areas and be sensitive to the confidentiality
and privacy of rural communities; prior experience working in rural areas is an asset
 Must be fluent in Swahili and English with excellent communication skills in both languages.
 Must be flexible and the candidate may be required to work long hours, holidays and
weekends at times where necessary
